Sources, boundaries and computer-test fidelity

This page controls how KN Origin Lab uses IELTS facts, Cambridge-style practice references, language books and KN-original diagnostics. It protects accuracy, copyright safety and the learner's familiarity with the current computer-delivered test workflow.

Current official-test anchor

Computer-delivered form must drive the mock design

Listening, Reading and Writing must be rehearsed as screen-based work with answer entry and review navigation. Speaking must remain oral interaction practice with examiner-style turn-taking, not a typed script exercise.

Market-dependent warning

Delivery timelines and Writing on Paper availability must be checked against the official booking context before the learner chooses a test date or centre.

listening2 refs

Listening is a screen-based section in IELTS on computer. The learner must answer while the recording continues and manage review time inside the section clock.

KN implementation rule

Mock screens must show a locked audio bar, item navigation, typed short-answer fields and review state.

reading2 refs

Academic Reading is a 60-minute section with three parts. On computer, candidates read and enter answers on screen.

KN implementation rule

Mock screens must keep passage access, item panel, question navigation and evidence notes in one timed workspace.

writing4 refs

Academic Writing is 60 minutes with two tasks. Standard computer delivery uses typed responses; Writing on Paper may exist in selected markets with tasks shown on screen and handwritten responses.

KN implementation rule

Mock screens must support typed writing by default and a clearly labelled market-dependent handwriting rehearsal mode.

speaking2 refs

Speaking remains an interaction with a trained examiner and lasts 11 to 14 minutes.

KN implementation rule

Mock speaking should train turn-taking, recovery, timing and spoken delivery rather than written scripts.

Source categories

What we can use, and what we must not copy

Official IELTS standard

Defines what the real test contains, how long each section lasts and what delivery modes are currently described by IELTS.

High risk

Allowed

Paraphrase stable facts and link learners to the official source for booking-specific details.

Forbidden

Do not present KN Origin Lab as an IELTS partner, examiner or official score provider.

IELTS Academic test format

Medium risk

IELTS · Quarterly

The IELTS overview and mock catalogue may show section order and timing, but every diagnostic label must remain internal.

IELTS on computer delivery

Medium risk

IELTS · Quarterly

Mock Test Lab should rehearse the workflow: timer, screen questions, answer panel, review navigation and no paper-answer transfer for computer sections.

IELTS delivery update from mid-2026

Low risk

IELTS · Monthly

All product copy must say that exact timelines and options vary by market and should be checked before booking.

IELTS on computer: Writing on Paper option

Low risk

IELTS · Monthly

Mock Test Lab may include both typed and handwriting rehearsal, but must label Writing on Paper as market-dependent.

Practice format reference

Keeps mock tests familiar in structure while forcing all public learning material to be KN-original.

High risk

Allowed

Use task taxonomy, timing, public navigation ideas and high-level answer-entry behaviour.

Forbidden

Do not copy passages, audio, answer keys, answer sheets, charts or sample responses from protected books or tests.

Cambridge / IELTS Academic sample-test format

High risk

Cambridge University Press & Assessment / IELTS · Before release

Use the source to validate section duration and task families, then write new KN prompts and passages from scratch.

Language reference

Guides grammar, vocabulary, collocation and phrase coverage without turning reference books into copied lessons.

High risk

Allowed

Use topic scope, CEFR planning, terminology and short non-substantial references where legally safe.

Forbidden

Do not copy exercise sequences, answer keys, full explanations or distinctive page structure.

Oxford 3000 and Oxford 5000 word lists

Medium risk

Oxford University Press · Annual

Convert coverage into KN explanations, examples and diagnostics rather than reproducing list pages.

Local / owned reference

Cambridge grammar, collocation and phrasal-verb references

High risk

Cambridge University Press · Annual

Use references to decide which language phenomena matter, then build KN-specific tasks and feedback.

Local / owned reference
KN original assessment material

Turns external standards into an original learning system with internal evidence labels rather than official score claims.

Medium risk

Allowed

Publish original tasks, rubrics, interface flows, explanations, feedback and error-repair plans.

Forbidden

Do not label readiness levels, estimated orientations or mock analytics as official IELTS band scores.

KN Original IELTS-style assessment layer

Low risk

KN Origin Lab · Twice a year

Every public diagnostic report should say internal diagnostic, evidence orientation or readiness profile, never official IELTS score report.

Release checklist

A new IELTS module is not ready until it passes these checks

Official-claim boundary

High risk

The page states public IELTS facts accurately and does not claim official endorsement, examiner status or official band scoring.

If wrong

Learners may trust a KN diagnostic as an official score and make booking or visa decisions on the wrong basis.

Reasonable fix

Rename the result as internal diagnostic, readiness profile or estimated orientation, and link to official IELTS for booking-specific rules.

Protected-content check

High risk

All passages, prompts, diagrams, audio scripts, feedback and explanations in public source are KN-original or clearly licensed for public use.

If wrong

A high-quality mock can still be legally unsafe if it republishes protected Cambridge/IELTS material.

Reasonable fix

Replace protected material with original KN tasks that preserve task type, timing and answer-entry workflow only.

Computer-test workflow check

Medium risk

Mock tests rehearse the real workflow: screen questions, answer entry, timer, review navigation, typed Writing and examiner-style Speaking practice.

If wrong

The learner may know the language but feel lost in the computer-delivered interface on test day.

Reasonable fix

Add section-specific computer rehearsal panels and keep Writing on Paper clearly marked as market-dependent.

Freshness check

Medium risk

Every official, time-sensitive source has a review date and stale sources are flagged before release.

If wrong

A delivery-mode statement can become wrong when IELTS changes market rollout, booking rules or access arrangements.

Reasonable fix

Refresh the source, update reviewedAt, and soften market-specific wording if availability cannot be verified.

Policy rules

High risk

Official facts are not official endorsement

The product may cite public IELTS facts, but must not imply that IELTS, Cambridge, IDP or British Council endorse KN Origin Lab.

High risk

No republished protected tests

Mock tests must be original. Protected passages, recordings, answer keys, sample answers and answer sheets are outside the publishable content boundary.

Medium risk

Internal diagnostics must be labelled

Every mock report and readiness profile must say that it is an internal diagnostic, not an official IELTS score report.

Internal diagnostic disclaimer

KN Origin Lab may estimate readiness, evidence quality and repair focus. It must not display those results as an official IELTS Test Report Form, official band score or official examiner decision.
